Airport Layout Plan Narrative Report and Technical Study
The Airport Layout Plan Narrative Report and Technical Study was prepared in accordance with the requirements of the FAA for an Airport Layout Plan (ALP) narrative report. An ALP is a set of drawings for an airport showing its existing and proposed boundaries and any proposed additions to areas owned or controlled by the airport sponsor for airport purposes. It also depicts the location and nature of existing and proposed airport facilities and structures, and the location on the airport of existing and proposed non-aviation areas and their improvements. The FAA will use the ALP narrative report to help determine whether or not any further, more detailed study will be required (i.e., a comprehensive airport master plan study and environmental impact analyses).
The Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works sponsored this ALP Narrative Report and Technical Study with the purposes of answering the question of what would be the appropriate runway length required to sustain scheduled air passenger service and to ascertain the feasibility of extending, or building a new runway at STS. The study is also designed to provide the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors with the information it would need to determine the technical feasibility of such an undertaking ad the steps necessary to ultimately implement the project if it were determined feasibility.
